Intimacy is Everything
BSWG is a devotional blog encouraging intimacy with God so the core of who we are becomes authentic with God, ourselves and others. I believe this authenticity fuels fire for imparting the divinity of God into our culture, society and the world at large.
"True and deep intimacy with God is intentional, prioritized, and consistent"
So what are BSWG?
They are stories that are the result of dialoguing with God in the secret place of prayer. Stories of obedience, transformation, repentance, sanctification, chastisement, revelation, direction and last but not least, underserved mercy, grace and forgiveness. It's in the secret place of the Most High that the battleground of our faith is set. This is the place where faith is fought and life's issues are dealt with.
"Intimacy with God is ultimately a call to war"
"BSWG is about navigating life instead of just navigating church"
Our walk with God is not so much about being perfect as it is about being faithful. Humanity is inherently flawed, and biblical communion with God will leave us uncomfortable, offended, provoked and challenged to make changes. It places a perpetual mirror that shadows our every move nudging us to deal with internal issues we often times shun to the side for the sake of maintaining our public image - yet those same issues if not dealt with, leave us privately and secretly compromised, disillusioned and in spiritual darkness. Our faithfulness to God should be evident through both our individual and corporate spiritual growth. Faithfulness seeks to move beyond intimacy with God into a place of obedience at any cost. It will always demand a response from us. Faithfulness is a call to action, and will demand an investment from our lives. In our frail human state, we are virtually incapable to act.
God longs to love us beyond our flawed humanity, and it almost sounds scandalous to think God would desire deep intimacy with us behind close doors right? But the truth is, we serve a scandalous God who desires nothing less than a scandalous and extravagant relationship with us. He desires to love us thoroughly until we love Him, love ourselves and love others. His greatest desire is to be one with us, so His glory can shine through us.
"Passion and Intimacy with God is an invitation to lose our lives, not find it"
BSWG is understanding that God has repeatedly expressed in His word His desire to know and love us as a husband knows his wife as they become one in their martial relations. This is a difficult concept to grasp since we live in such a corrupt and perverted culture, but the truth is, the institution of marriage is a direct replica of Christ and the Church. Often times, this love involves deep vulnerability, exposure of one's shame and inhibitions, blind trust in our partner that expels judgement of our inconsistencies, explicit confessions of damning secrets and implicit desires. It involves giving and taking, and a relinquishing of one's rights and power. It's a pathway of two colliding forces that's designed to ultimately bring forth life. This consummation is the very heart and purpose of intimacy with God - to encounter us in our most weakest, darkest and vulnerable state, to extend mercy and grace to us that eradicates condemnation and judgement for our most heinous crimes, to cover our shame and guilt with the blood of Jesus, and finally, to shift our eternal paradigm from death to life. It's about coming alive in 'Spirit and in Truth' and in the process bringing life to those around us.
Our Father offers this love to us today that we will be made whole despite our fallen nature. His love provides, protects and is always filled with purpose. He desires to take the broken, the outcast, the needy, the wretched, the defiled and the disillusioned and restore them to the place of both "Friendship" and "Sonship".
Think about where you are in life. Are you struggling to find your way? God reminds us in John 14:6 "Jesus answered , I am the Way, the Truth and the Life". Staying faithful to God can be challenging, but God desires to get into the deepest places of our lives and heal us from the inside out. Having failed God many times myself, I know His heart is to make us physically, emotionally and spiritually whole.
